Point Fixe
2023 · Acrylic on canvas · 130 x 70 cm · Private collection
This work does not depict a system in motion, but a system that believes it is moving. The spiral suggests progression, evolution, a path unfolding over time. Yet its structure reveals something else — a closed logic, self-referential, incapable of departure.
Each segment follows the previous one with precision. There is no hesitation, no disruption, no deviation. It is a continuity that appears stable, almost reassuring. But this stability is not the result of balance. It is the result of confinement.
The center, often associated with meaning or origin, is present but unreachable. The spiral approaches it endlessly, without ever arriving. It creates the impression that something is being resolved, when in fact nothing changes. The movement is real, but its direction is not.
Outside of this structure, a single red point remains. It does not participate. It is not drawn inward, nor does it attempt to escape. It simply exists beyond the system’s influence. Its presence is quiet, almost accidental, yet it introduces a fracture that the spiral cannot account for.
The red point does not oppose the spiral. It does not seek to dismantle it. It only reveals that the system is not absolute. That there is a position from which its logic no longer applies.
What appears as isolation may, in this context, be the only form of clarity.
Le Point Fixe is not about breaking free, nor about being trapped. It is about the recognition that some movements do not lead anywhere, and that stepping outside them does not require force — only the absence of participation.
