L'aigle noir

2023, acrylic on canvas, 90x110cm

This painting draws from a story that is never told directly. From the return of something long buried, forgotten, or pushed aside. Darkness here is not night, but depth — a place from which something can emerge without it being clear whether it arrives as protection or as a threat.

The black eagle appears quietly. Not as a revelation, but as a memory that has found its way back. It comes from a space where fear, fascination, and a strange sense of closeness intertwine. It is both foreign and familiar. It carries strength, but also the weight of a past that was never fully spoken.

Light in the painting is not a triumph over darkness. It is only a brief moment of visibility, a chance to glimpse something before it dissolves again. The eagle offers no answers and no comfort. It is a reminder that some things return because they never truly left.

This painting is not about overcoming the past, but about encountering it. About the moment when one looks into darkness and recognizes something of oneself within it. L’aigle noir is not a symbol of fear, but of memory. And memory has wings.
